Gwynedd Celebrates Mercy Day
The red and gold corridors were bustling last week with events leading up to Mercy Day. Mercy Day—September 24—is the anniversary of the opening of the first “House of Mercy” in 1827 in Dublin, Ireland, where Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, devoted her life to the poor, sick, and uneducated.
Students and their alumnae mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and cousins gathered in honor of Mercy Day on September 21. They enjoyed a continental breakfast before attending Mercy Day Mass. After Mass, Elizabeth Hasson '18 spoke to the students about her work with Mercy Focus on Haiti. |

The students enjoyed a day of skits and activities at school as they dressed up in red and gold for their "Mercy Spirit'ful' Day" on September 22. Despite rainy weather, alumnae, students, past and current parents, and friends kept the celebration going on September 23 by supporting the 15th annual Carolyn Keen '10 Memorial 5K Run/1M Walk. The CK5K is an event that raises funds to support the Carolyn Keen ’10 Memorial Scholarship. We hope all our alumnae and community members had a very happy Mercy Day. As the Sisters of Mercy foundress Catherine McAuley once said, "The tender Mercy of God has given us one another." |

Support the Zoë Rogers ’19 Mercy Memorial Fund
Gwynedd Mercy will honor the memory of Zoë Rogers '19, a beloved member of the Gwynedd Mercy community, at the inaugural Zoë Rogers '19 Mercy Memorial Field Hockey Game on Thursday, October 5, and we extend a warm invitation to all members of our community to come together as we compete against our sister school, Merion Mercy Academy, at the Gwynedd Mercy Turf Field.
This event serves as a meaningful opportunity to both demonstrate your support for our Monarchs on the field and to celebrate the values of community, support, love, and mercy as we remember Zoë, a former goalkeeper and captain of the GMAHS field hockey team. Pre-game activities will commence at 3PM, followed by the Varsity Game starting promptly at 4PM. At the game, you will have the chance to engage in various activities, including |

gaining insights into Zoë's impact on our community, crafting bracelets to express support for her legacy and mental health awareness, and participating in raffles with opportunities to win prizes, all which will support the Zoë Rogers ’19 Mercy Memorial Fund.
Established in 2020 in response to Zoë’s passing, the fund is dedicated to promoting and supporting diversity, inclusion, and wellness within Gwynedd Mercy and beyond. It offers various funding opportunities that include a Class Day Award, recognizing a current student who fosters a culture of belonging and well-being, and support for programs related to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and wellness.
We are delighted to share the news that CommonBondz, a local not-for-profit organization on whose Board of Directors Zoë served, has pledged a dollar-for-dollar matching gift of $5,000 in support of the Zoë’s Fund. We express our heartfelt appreciation to CommonBondz and Michael DeCandido P'09, '15, a co-founder of CommonBondz and a Gwynedd Mercy Trustee, for their generosity.
You can help us secure this impactful challenge gift by participating in fundraising activities on game day or by making a gift online today. We hope to see you on October 5th and thank you for your support! |
